Chicago Defender, "Teesee's-Theresa Fambro Hooks Town" reports on Postal Service Unveils Civil Rights Stamps.
A series of commemorative stamps, "To Form a More perfect Union,
"celebrating 10 important milestones in the era of the Civil Rights Movement were unveiled Tuesday during and impressive ceremony at the Harold Washington Cultural Center. Co-sponsored by the U.S. Postal Service and the Chicago Defender, the stamps were part of the Postal Service's 2005 stamp program marking the people and events that have shaped the history of the nation: The stamps, which went on sale Tuesday, depict Brown v. Board of Education, Civil Rights Act of 1964, Freedom Riders, Little Rock Nine, Lunch Counter Sit-Ins, Montgomery Bus Boycott Selma March, Executive Order 9981, March on Washington and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Each was introduced individually by local civil rights activists/leaders.
