Illinois Commission on the 50th Anniversary ACTIVITY TWO AND ACCOMPLISHMENTS Kick-Off Reception, Inaugural, and Press Conference |
The first official meeting of the Commission was held on February 27, 2004 at the Museum of Contemporary Art and was proceeded by two public events held the same evening at the same location. The Commissioners, members of the Advisory Council, and the Executive Director were introduced.

Prominent government and civic leaders attended the two public events, Kick-off Reception and Press Conference. Special remarks were made by Senate President Emil Jones, Jr., Governor Rod Blagojevich, the Commission’s Honorary Co-Chairs, Senator Mattie Hunter, and Judge Arnette R. Hubbard.
The Commission’s Executive Director, Mrs. Ollie McLemore, also was introduced. More than 300 distinguished individuals attended the reception, which was covered by television Channels CBS 2, NBC 5 and ABC 7 and the Chicago Defender .
